How I Look Beyond the Obvious in Digital Marketing
Introduction
When I started learning digital marketing, I thought the main goal was simple: create good content, use the right keywords, run advertisements, and reach more people. But as I learned more, I realised that marketing is not always about finding the quickest solution.
Sometimes, the problem we see is only a small part of what is actually happening. A social media post may get fewer likes, but that does not always mean the design is bad. A website may have low traffic, but simply bringing in more visitors may not solve the real problem. This is why I believe looking beyond the obvious is an important part of becoming a better marketer.
Looking at the Real Problem
It is easy to notice a problem and immediately look for a solution. If a page has low engagement, we may think we need to post more. If a website has low traffic, we may think we need more keywords.
But before making changes, I think it is important to understand what is actually going wrong.
Who is seeing the content? Is it reaching the right audience? Is the message clear? Does the website give visitors what they are looking for?
Asking these questions can reveal problems that are not visible at first.
Creativity Is More Than Good Design
I used to think creativity in marketing mainly meant creating attractive graphics or writing interesting captions. Now I see it differently.
Creativity can also mean finding a new way to solve a problem.
It could be presenting an ordinary topic from a different angle, simplifying a complicated idea, creating content around a customer’s real question, or finding a better way to communicate a brand’s message.
Good design can attract attention, but good thinking can give that design a purpose.
Staying Curious
Digital marketing keeps changing. New platforms, trends, tools, and technologies appear all the time.
Because of this, I think curiosity is one of the most useful qualities a marketer can have.
Instead of accepting that something works just because everyone is doing it, I want to understand why it works. I also want to observe how people behave online, learn from different brands, and pay attention to everyday experiences.
Sometimes, a simple observation can lead to a useful marketing idea.
Conclusion
Looking beyond the obvious does not mean making marketing complicated. For me, it means taking a moment to understand the real situation before jumping to a solution.
It means questioning assumptions, paying attention to customer behaviour, combining creativity with strategy, and learning from both good and bad results.
As I continue growing as a digital marketer, I want to develop this way of thinking. Because sometimes, the best marketing idea is not the most obvious one. It is the one we discover when we take the time to look a little deeper.
